A Message to Todd Carney from the Raiders Army

Thursday, February 28th, 2008

Todd

You, like hundreds of thousands of others, grew up watching the likes of
Steve Walters, Brad Clyde, Laurie Daley, Ricky Stuart, Mal Meninga and
co with wide eyes and adulation. You watched them climb from the cellar
in the eighties to the very top of the league, the pinnacle of the
sport. You watched your heroes become back-to-back premiers, become the
envy of all others. Together, you and us watched the Canberra Raiders
become the greatest football club on earth.

Today, you are in the very special position of being able to emulate the
feats of your heroes, of my heroes, of our heroes. You are the club’s
modern day Laurie Daley, the poster boy, the hero. You have been granted
the opportunity to be involved in something special, something magical.
You, along with the likes of Will Zillman, Alan Tongue and Nev Costigan
have the chance to take our club to the top once again, where we belong.
You have the chance to be remembered in the same light as your heroes.
You have the chance to hold aloft the Premiership trophy, surrounded by
men in green, in front of thousands of adoring fans.

No victory could be sweeter, for you, for us.

We are Raiders for life Todd.
